Common Skincare Mistakes Men Make

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

I know so many men (*cough, cough my husband included) that do not worry about what is being used on their face. They may think their skin is resistant to the UV rays and dirt/ grime from everyday tasks. However, if you have skin, you should take care of it. You only get one skin. Below are some common mistakes that I see with men’s skincare.

1. Using body wash as face cleanser.

This honestly makes me cringe thinking about it. These products can alter our skin’s pH. When this happens, our skin is stripped of its natural oil, causing inflammation and irritation. Deep Pore Pure or Milky Clean and Pure are great because they maintain the correct pH while cleansing deeply into pores.

2. Not using sunscreen

I hear all the time particularly from men, “I don’t like the feel of sunscreen” or “I am tan, I do not need that.” According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “men age 49 and under have a higher probability of developing melanoma than any other cancer.” This is HUGE. Please, just wear the sunscreen and protect yourself.

3. Not cleansing your beard

Sweat, dirt, and dead skin cells can get lodged in beards causing inflammation. It is always best to clean your face and beard with a cleanser every day.

4. Shaving incorrectly

Ingrown facial hairs can happen when shaving in the wrong directions, or not using shaving cream. This can cause inflammation in the hair follicle, also known as folliculitis. This may look like little red bumps that can turn into whiteheads because bacteria build up in the follicle. Not only is the Deep Pore Pure cleanser a great cleanser but also an even better shaving cream. It is also important to invest in a high-quality razor. Many razors can pull on the hair instead of making a nice clean cut.

Many men make these mistakes, but they can be easily fixed. A proper skincare regimen is important to maintain healthy skin. No matter your gender, your skin is your largest organ and needs to be cared for.
